The Mainstays IRL

LYW Mainstays | The Mainstays. Each mainstay is practice in mindful living and together the foundation of a life lived well. Today, I am exercising the practice with a heavy chest filled with sorrow as news of the Supreme Court nominee unfolds in the chambers of our government. Today, I practice the Mainstays as a way to soothe my mind, body and spirit, allowing freedom to the grief that inhabits me.

Here’s what it looks like: 
Movement. A long, quiet walk with attention to my footsteps and my breath.
Rest. Down time, in bed with my partner. Watching movies. 
Nourishment. Warm foods with lots of vegetables grown from inside the earth. Lots of Water. 
Nature. Putting myself in the warmth of the sun on my balcony. Hugging a tree. 
Relationships. Talking with my nearest and dearest, weeping with them, sharing our most vulnerable selves. Playing with my children.
Spirit. Remembering my connection to the legacies and wisdom of my female ancestors, finding solace and strength through them. 
Expression. Writing, to you, to myself. Remembering that I believe you, I believe me, and that we’re going to get through this together.
