The Mainstays IRL Vol. 10

LYW MAINSTAYS | Earlier this week I heard a critique on therapists, namely, that all therapists do is… talk. It’s true in your typical psychotherapy session, yes, you will talk and therapists will listen, but it isn’t exactly what it seems. We do this because we know that talking and listening heals. Each plays a part in helping therapists and clients develop trust and a bond to usher in healing. Many times this is all that is needed, a warm, committed witness. Other times, something else is looked-for too. I found this in my own practice. Clients wanted to know how to prevent future set-backs or longed for a life they knew how to live. They wanted a road map. The Mainstays philosophy is that roadmap with the ultimate destination of finding your true north. Enjoy the ride, dear!

Here’s what the Mainstays looked like over the last few days:
MOVEMENT. Walking the streets with no where to go; @barre3 workouts at home.
REST. Late afternoon shut-eye; watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with abandon; witnessing the sun set.
NOURISHMENT. Heaps of roasted vegetables atop basmati rice in butternut squash sauce; dehydrating cashews for snacks; attempting Julia Child’s Coq au Vin recipe for Sunday Supper; vegan meal planning for guests.
NATURE. Relishing the long, dark nights but also excitedly anticipating the days getting longer; listening to the rain scurry down the hill; big breaths of cold air.
RELATIONSHIPS. Getting back to being social on the socials with clearer boundaries; asking for parenting advice; gifts from me to loved ones that are just right.
SPIRIT. Following the whispers of my whims; lovingkindness meditations; feeling my way through the paradox of loving and limiting beliefs.
EXPRESSION. Working from the inside out; remembering to do what I love and then doing it; setting a table for 8. #liveyourwell
