R E L A T I O N S H I P S | Health at Every Size. A way of eating, a way of loving yourself. Founded by Dr. Linda Bacon, one of the first nutritionists to say that all bodies must be respected as they are while also valuing the body’s innate wisdom, the uniqueness of each individual, the body’s signals for food, and eating for the joy of it.

Most importantly, however, Health at Every Size puts into view the social justice issues related to food and body size, “Yes, everyone needs access to a standard of living that includes good food and the chance to move. But maintaining the primacy of the individual-lifestyle focus—without being transparent about larger influences—is an affront to people living in disadvantage, as it reduces their ill health to poor “choices” and blames them, all the while contributing to the stigma and judgmental thinking that fuels their oppression, worsens their health, and expands the health divide between the advantaged and disadvantaged,” says Dr. Bacon.

Too many of us simply do not have access to good food and/or places to safely move our bodies, and it’s not for a lack of trying or wanting. Discrimination is not just institutionalized; it’s a lived experience that impacts all facets of health, especially mental and cardiovascular health. Health at Every Size knows this and endeavors to change it.

Me too. I took the Health at Every Size pledge to advance the imperatives of diversity in human bodies and to be an agent of change for all of them.

Love your body just as it is, dear, and feed it with pleasure!
